Trey Mancini Retires After Brief Stint with Angels
Trey Mancini has announced his retirement from Major League Baseball after a brief return with the Los Angeles Angels, where he played five games. The 34-year-old, who was named the AL Comeback Player of the Year in 2021 following his recovery from colon cancer, made his final major league appearance on June 14.
Mancini signed a minor league contract with the Angels in February, participating in major league spring training. During his time with Triple-A Salt Lake, he recorded a batting average of .273, along with six home runs and 29 RBIs. His first major league game since 2023 saw him achieve three hits in a loss against the Houston Astros.
Over his career, Mancini played six seasons with the Baltimore Orioles, achieving a personal best of 29 home runs in 2019. After missing the 2020 season due to cancer surgery, he returned to the Orioles in 2021 and later won a World Series with the Houston Astros in 2022. He also had stints with the Chicago Cubs and minor league teams including the Reds, Marlins, and Diamondbacks.
