Trial Scheduled for Man Charged in Gaudreau Brothers' Deaths
Sean Higgins, the individual charged with the deaths of NHL player Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew, is set to stand trial in early 2024.
Higgins faces multiple charges, including two counts of first-degree aggravated manslaughter and two counts of second-degree reckless vehicular homicide. Jury selection is scheduled for December 1 in Salem County, New Jersey, with the trial commencing on January 4, 2024, after a holiday recess.
During a court appearance, Higgins rejected a plea deal and could face a maximum sentence of 91 and a half years if convicted on all counts. The Gaudreau brothers were tragically killed on August 29, 2024, when they were struck by a vehicle while biking near their home in rural New Jersey.
