Troy Douglas Optimistic About India's Medal Prospects at Asian Games
Troy Douglas, the head coach of athletics at the Inspire Institute of Sport in Ballari, expressed optimism about India's chances at the upcoming 2026 Asian Games during a coaching clinic in Chennai. He believes that the country can improve upon its record of 29 medals achieved at the 2023 Hangzhou Games.
Douglas, who has been observing Indian athletics for over a year, stated that he anticipates India could secure 32 medals at the next Asian Games. He highlighted the performance of athletes Rashdeep Kaur and Prachi Choudhary, who are well-prepared for the women's 400m and 4x400m relay events, as having strong medal potential.
In addition, Douglas mentioned that he has been in close communication with Indian coach Jerry Lee Holness regarding the women's 400m and hurdles. He also noted the potential of triple jumpers Praveen Chithravel and Selva Prabhu, as indicated by IIS jumps coach Yoandri Betanzos. Douglas, a former Olympian, plans to retire from coaching after the 2028 season to spend more time with his family.
