Trump to Decide on Live-Streaming Execution of Fort Hood Shooter
President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he would make a decision regarding the potential live-streaming of Nidal Malik Hasan's execution, which is set for December 3. This statement came two days after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth suggested that the execution would be publicly broadcast.
The Pentagon confirmed that this would mark the first instance of the U.S. military live-streaming an execution on the internet. Hasan, a former U.S. Army psychiatrist, was responsible for a mass shooting at Fort Hood, Texas, in 2009, resulting in numerous casualties.
The announcement has faced backlash from various groups, including faith leaders and human rights advocates. Oklahoma City Archbishop Paul Coakley criticized the proposal, calling it a barbaric promotion of a culture of death. Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance expressed his personal disinterest in watching the live stream and hinted that the execution might not be broadcast after all.
