Tua Tagovailoa Out for Falcons' Season Opener

Tua Tagovailoa will not participate in the Atlanta Falcons' season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers, as he has been ruled out due to an oblique injury.

The injury occurred during Thursday's practice, raising concerns about his availability for the game. Backup quarterback Cooper Rush, who joined the team in late July, will take over the starting position.

Tagovailoa's injury comes after he previously dealt with a back issue during training camp. The Falcons had given him the starting role by default, as Michael Penix Jr. was not yet ready to play. Tagovailoa signed a one-year contract with the Falcons in March after a season with the Miami Dolphins, where he recorded 2,660 passing yards and 20 touchdowns.
