Turki Alalshikh Withdraws Investment Plans for Derby County

Turki Alalshikh, a Saudi Arabian government official, has withdrawn his proposed investment in Derby County, a Championship football club. The deal, which was expected to proceed after receiving approval from the English Football League and the Independent Football Regulator, was abandoned as of Monday.

In a statement, Derby County announced that the club is no longer for sale and will continue to operate under the support of Clowes Developments. Alalshikh expressed gratitude to the club for their cooperation but indicated that the lengthy ratification process left insufficient time to prepare for the ongoing season.

The investment proposal had been under consideration since May and had raised concerns among human rights advocates regarding Alalshikh's background and the implications of the investment. The Independent Football Regulator had been assessing the bid, which was nearing approval before Alalshikh's decision to withdraw.
