Two Veteran Pitchers Choose Minor League Free Agency
Two veteran pitchers, Ian Hamilton and Rob Zastryzny, have opted for minor league free agency, according to the MiLB.com transactions page.
Hamilton, who previously played for the Braves, had a brief stint with the team, making only four appearances and allowing four earned runs over 4 2/3 innings. He performed better at Triple-A Gwinnett, achieving a 2.79 ERA and a 27% strikeout rate in 38 2/3 innings. His overall major league statistics include a 3.72 ERA and a 46.8% ground-ball rate across 155 innings.
Zastryzny, a left-handed pitcher, made his major league debut with the Cubs in 2016 but has had limited opportunities since then. He has a career 3.84 ERA over 80 appearances. This past season was marred by a trapezius strain, which restricted him to just 11 innings in the minors. The Brewers outrighted him on September 21.
