Ty Gibbs Expresses Frustration Over NASCAR's Starting Metric After Southern 500

Ty Gibbs secured a second-place finish in the Southern 500 at Darlington but expressed dissatisfaction with his starting position, which was determined by NASCAR's lineup metric. He began the race in 28th place after practice and qualifying were canceled due to bad weather.

Entering the race as the No. 4 seed in the Chase, Gibbs left Darlington ranked sixth in the standings, trailing leader Denny Hamlin by 39 points. His starting position was influenced by a previous 34th-place finish at Daytona, which he felt hindered his chances for a better result.

Despite his frustrations, Gibbs acknowledged the efforts of his team and congratulated his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, Christopher Bell, who won the race. Gibbs remains in a competitive points position as he prepares for the upcoming race at Gateway on September 13.
