Ty Gibbs Set to Join V8 Supercars Grand Finale as Walkinshaw TWG Racing Prepares
As Toyota's inaugural season in Australian Supercars approaches its end, Walkinshaw TWG Racing is reportedly preparing for the bp Adelaide Grand Final in November. The team, which currently fields the GR Supra for drivers Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood, is set to introduce a third car, with Ty Gibbs from Joe Gibbs Racing being the likely candidate.
Gibbs, who drives the No. 54 Toyota in the NASCAR Cup Series, has been gaining recognition for his recent performances, including two Cup Series victories this season. His participation in the Supercars event would provide him with valuable experience on road courses, particularly as he aims to compete against three-time Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen.
While the plan awaits approval from the United States, both Supercars and local organizers have expressed support. Walkinshaw TWG has the necessary infrastructure to facilitate this entry, and the timing aligns well with the NASCAR schedule, allowing Gibbs to transition smoothly to the street circuit in Adelaide.
