Tyler Gilbert Remains with White Sox After Being Outrighted

The Chicago White Sox have outrighted left-handed pitcher Tyler Gilbert to Triple-A Charlotte following his designation for assignment earlier this week. This move was made to create space on the 40-man roster for Tommy Pham.

Gilbert went unclaimed on waivers and opted to remain within the White Sox organization despite having the right to reject the assignment. His decision is not unexpected, as he would not have been eligible to pitch in the postseason for any new team at this time of year.

Originally drafted by the Phillies in 2015, Gilbert made his major league debut with the Diamondbacks in 2021, where he notably threw a no-hitter in his first start. However, his performance since then has been inconsistent. After a challenging 2026 season with the White Sox, where he allowed eight runs in six innings, he will provide depth in the minors. If he is not reinstated to the 40-man roster, he can opt for free agency after the season.
