UCLA has announced the hiring of former NFL quarterback Derek Carr as a special advisor to the offensive staff, just weeks before the college football season begins. Carr will work closely with the offense and quarterback group, assisting in game-planning and quarterback development.

Despite lacking formal coaching experience, Carr brings extensive knowledge from his 11-year NFL career, having worked under various head coaches and offensive coordinators. The Bruins are set to kick off their season against the California Golden Bears on September 5.

In other offseason news, Arizona running back Ismail Mahdi and linebacker Max Harris have rejoined their team after a court ruling granted them an extra year of eligibility. Additionally, Indiana defensive lineman Kellan Wyatt has decided to return for a fifth season following the same ruling, while USC's starting center Kilian O'Connor will miss the upcoming season due to injury.
