UCLA Football Faces Fan Indifference Despite Undefeated Season
UCLA football, currently undefeated and ranked in the top 10, experienced a disappointing turnout at the Rose Bowl during their 17-7 victory over Wisconsin. Despite the team's success under coach Bob Chesney, only 36,045 fans attended the game, marking a significant decline in support compared to previous seasons.
The Bruins honored their coach by distributing 'Chesney Train' conductor hats, yet the crowd was less than half of the stadium's capacity. While students filled part of the lower end zone, the overall attendance highlighted a disconnect between the team’s performance and fan engagement.
Chesney has actively sought to boost interest in the program, engaging with students and the UCLA band. However, various factors, including the stadium's size and past performance issues, contribute to the ongoing challenge of attracting fans. With four home games remaining, including an upcoming match against Michigan State, the hope is that local support will increase as the team continues its successful run.
