UCLA Quarterback Nico Iamaleava Out for Season Due to Knee Injury
Nico Iamaleava, the quarterback for UCLA, is set to miss the remainder of the season following a knee injury sustained during a game against Oregon. He left the field during the Bruins' 17-15 victory after an awkward collision with two defenders.
Iamaleava, a former five-star recruit who transferred from Tennessee to UCLA, had been providing stability at the quarterback position this season. Over four games, he completed 62.1 percent of his passes for 982 yards, with four touchdowns and four interceptions, while also rushing for 144 yards and a touchdown.
In Iamaleava's absence, backup Ty Dieffenbach stepped in and performed adequately, completing three of six passes for 43 yards and a touchdown. UCLA's next game will be against Wisconsin, and the coaching staff indicated that the starting quarterback position will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis. The Bruins are currently ranked sixth in the nation for rushing yards per game and have a strong defense, which may lessen the pressure on the quarterback position moving forward.
