UCLA Regains Control of Logo Licensing Rights
UCLA has regained control over the licensing rights to its logo, concluding a 60-year agreement with a student-run organization. This change is expected to significantly benefit the athletics department financially.
The decision follows a critical audit of the organization that previously held these rights, which revealed substantial debts and operational issues. UCLA Chancellor Julio Frenk announced the transfer of control to Beau Jimmerson, the associate vice chancellor for business and finance solutions.
This shift allows UCLA to optimize revenue from merchandise without incurring costs for using its own logo. The previous agreement had limited the university's financial potential, and officials believe this change could lead to increased merchandise sales and improved financial stability for the athletics department.
