UEFA Bans Lens Fans from Liverpool Match Due to Flares Incident
Fans of the French football club Lens have been prohibited from buying tickets for their Champions League match against Liverpool due to a UEFA disciplinary ruling issued on Tuesday.
This decision follows an incident where Lens supporters lit and threw flares during a match against Club Brugge, causing a temporary halt in play. The team ultimately lost that game 3-0. Previously, Lens had been placed on probation by UEFA for similar behavior during a match against Slavia Prague in September.
As part of the ruling, UEFA's appeals judges have banned Lens from selling tickets to fans for two upcoming away games, specifically against Leipzig on November 24 and Liverpool at Anfield on January 27. Additionally, Lens has been fined 80,000 euros for the use of pyrotechnics and related damages. In a separate case, Slovan Bratislava has also faced a ticket sales ban and fines for crowd disturbances.
