UEFA Maintains Boycott Stance Against FIFA Despite Apology

UEFA is reportedly committed to its boycott of FIFA competitions, asserting that the apology from FIFA president Gianni Infantino does not change its stance. This decision follows a recent FIFA meeting in Rabat, Morocco, aimed at addressing the backlash from Infantino's unsuccessful proposal to sell a stake in the World Cup.

During the summit, Infantino retracted the controversial FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal and received support from FIFA's leadership. FIFA acknowledged past mistakes and apologized to its council and member associations, promising to prevent similar issues in the future.

Despite these developments, UEFA remains resolute, stating that its conditions for lifting the boycott—complete withdrawal of the proposal and guarantees against future attempts to alter the game—have not been met. UEFA has expressed a loss of confidence in Infantino's presidency, and other football federations, including Concacaf and the English FA, have echoed similar sentiments. UEFA has also taken steps to preserve evidence related to the situation, with the first significant test of its boycott set for September 5 during the FIFA Women’s Under-20 World Cup in Poland.
