UFC Considers Rematch Between Gaethje and Topuria
The UFC is contemplating a rematch between Justin Gaethje and Ilia Topuria, as reported by commentator Jon Anik. This comes after Topuria lost his lightweight title to Gaethje at UFC Freedom 250 in June, marking Topuria's first professional defeat.
Anik mentioned on the Anik Bros YouTube channel that discussions are ongoing regarding a potential second fight between the two fighters. The UFC appears interested in leveraging the success of their last event by placing Topuria back in a title fight instead of a rebuilding match.
Gaethje has expressed doubts about Topuria's entitlement to an immediate rematch, preferring to focus on avenging his losses to Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira. Gaethje also revealed that he is dealing with injuries from the previous fight and does not plan to compete until 2027, which could open the door for Arman Tsarukyan to vie for a title shot if he wins his upcoming match.
