Ukraine Launches Major Drone Attack on Russia Amid Tensions with Trump
Ukraine conducted one of its largest drone attacks of the year on Russia, targeting a key oil terminal overnight on Saturday, despite US President Donald Trump's request for Ukraine to refrain from striking Russian energy infrastructure.
The attack has heightened tensions between Ukraine and the US, with fears in Kyiv about losing vital support as winter approaches. Trump recently invoked a waiver that exempts Russia from certain economic penalties, which has drawn criticism, including from President Volodymyr Zelensky, who labeled it a historic mistake.
In response to the drone strikes, Russia's defense ministry reported shooting down over a thousand Ukrainian drones. The attacks resulted in one death and several injuries, with damage reported to residential areas. Zelensky emphasized ongoing communication with US officials to seek peace, while also noting that Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure have continued unabated.
