Ukrainian Chess Grandmaster Vereslav Eingorn Passes Away at 69
Vereslav Eingorn, a notable Ukrainian chess grandmaster, coach, and author, has passed away at the age of 69. He was born on November 23, 1956, in Odesa, then part of the Soviet Union, and began his chess journey at the age of 12.
Eingorn achieved significant milestones in his chess career, earning the titles of Soviet Master of Sport in 1976, International Master in 1984, and Grandmaster in 1986. He was a prominent competitor in the Soviet chess scene during the 1980s, winning bronze medals in the USSR Championships in 1984, 1987, and 1989, and achieving notable placements in various tournaments.
After the Soviet Union's dissolution, he represented Ukraine in three Chess Olympiads and contributed to the national team's success, including a bronze medal in 2000 and a victory at the World Team Chess Championship in 2001. Later, he transitioned to coaching, leading the Ukrainian women's national team to gold at the 2006 Chess Olympiad. FIDE has expressed condolences to his family and colleagues.
