Ural State Mining University emerged as the champion of the inaugural FIDE World University Team Championship Finals, defeating Saint Louis University in a tightly contested match held in Almaty.
The final began with all four matches closely fought, resulting in draws for the top three boards. The decisive point came from IM Leya Garifullina, who won against WGM Thalia Cervantes Landeiro, leading Ural to a 2.5-1.5 victory in the first match.
The second match mirrored the first, with the initial boards again ending in draws. Garifullina secured another victory over Cervantes Landeiro, resulting in another 2.5-1.5 win for Ural, giving them an overall score of 5-3 and the championship title. The event concluded with a closing ceremony celebrating the medalists.
