US Amateur Championship Underway at Merion
The 126th US Amateur Championship is taking place at Merion, with Preston Stout as the top-ranked amateur. He is followed by Tyler Weaver, who has withdrawn due to a back injury, and American players Tyler Watts and Miles Russell.
Stout struggled in his opening round, scoring five-over par 75 and currently sits at two-over par after ten holes in his second round. In contrast, Russell and Watts performed well, shooting rounds of 67 and 69, while Luke Poulter completed his round with a score of one-over par 71.
Historically, only Peter Uihlein has won the US Amateur while ranked number one, achieving this feat in 2010. The pressure remains high for Stout as he aims to improve his standing and qualify for the matchplay cut-off.
