U.S. Navy Aircraft Carrier to Dock in Pattaya, Thailand

A U.S. Navy aircraft carrier, the Abraham Lincoln, is scheduled to arrive in Pattaya, Thailand, this week after a lengthy deployment in the Middle East. The carrier will dock at Laem Chabang, allowing nearly 5,000 sailors and Marines to rest after over 200 days at sea.

Local authorities are enhancing security measures around Pattaya's beachfront and nightlife areas, following recent raids that resulted in the detention of 40 to 50 individuals for suspected prostitution. Despite prostitution being illegal in Thailand, it remains prevalent in major tourist areas.

The arrival of the Lincoln is expected to provide a short-term economic boost, with estimates suggesting that each service member could spend between 1,000 to 3,000 baht per day. However, concerns have been raised about the potential increase in sexual exploitation and health risks associated with the influx of military personnel, as well as reports of mental health issues among the crew.
