US State Department Orders Withdrawal of Diplomats from Saudi Arabia Ahead of WWE Event
The US State Department has instructed diplomats and their families to leave Saudi Arabia, just over two weeks before the WWE Crown Jewel event in Riyadh.
This decision follows recent violence, including a drone attack that resulted in two fatalities at Saudi Aramco's Shaybah oil field and injuries at King Fahd International Airport in Dammam. The order is part of a broader trend of withdrawing diplomatic personnel from the region amid increased hostilities from Iranian-supported Houthis targeting Saudi Arabia.
Despite the escalating situation, WWE plans to proceed with Crown Jewel on November 7, featuring championship matches. The event is expected to generate significant revenue for WWE, with reports indicating a payment of around $50-55 million for this event alone.
