USA Basketball Unveils Roster for August World Cup Qualifiers
USA Basketball has disclosed its 12-man roster for the upcoming qualifying games for the 2027 FIBA World Cup, scheduled for August.
The team includes players with NBA experience, such as Dillon Jones and Tyler Smith, who played for the Knicks and Mavericks, respectively. Both were on two-way contracts, with Jones' deal ending in June and Smith being released last month.
The qualifying games will take place in Chile on August 27 and against Colombia on August 31. The roster features players who previously competed in the July qualifying window, where the U.S. secured victories against the Dominican Republic and Mexico. Coach Terry Stotts leads the team, which currently holds a 5-1 record in the qualifiers. It is anticipated that the final World Cup roster will differ significantly, as the U.S. typically selects a more prominent lineup for the main event in Qatar next summer.
