Her coach, Pavel Fedotov, confirmed this decision after the announcement of UFC 332 in Salt Lake City, where Natalia Silva will compete against Wang Cong for the vacant title. The fight originally scheduled for October 3 was postponed due to Shevchenko's injuries, prompting the decision to relinquish the belt temporarily.

This move aligns with a trend of injured champions in the UFC who have chosen to vacate their titles instead of delaying competition. Notably, Jamahal Hill and Jiri Prochazka also relinquished their belts due to injuries. Shevchenko has defended her title nine times since 2018, and the upcoming Silva-Cong matchup will mark the first time a champion is crowned in the division without her participation.
