Valter Walker Matches UFC Submission Record but Remains Humble
Valter Walker has equaled Demian Maia's record for the most consecutive UFC submissions in the modern era following his latest victory at UFC Abu Dhabi.
Walker achieved this milestone by submitting Junior Tafa, Don'Tale Mayes, Kennedy Nzechukwu, Louie Sutherland, and Thomas Petersen in his last five fights. However, the 28-year-old Brazilian downplayed the significance of this achievement, citing former heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum as the benchmark for submission success.
Walker noted that the quality of opponents is more important than the quantity of submissions, referencing Werdum's notable victories over fighters like Fedor Emelianenko and Cain Velasquez. He acknowledged that his recent opponents do not have the same level of recognition, making his accomplishment feel less significant. Walker, who is currently ranked in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings, aims to develop further before drawing comparisons to established legends in the sport.
