
Vancouver Whitecaps Eliminated from Leagues Cup After Penalty Shootout Loss to Tigres
The Vancouver Whitecaps faced Tigres UANL in their final Leagues Cup match on Tuesday, ultimately losing 5-4 in a penalty shootout. This defeat marked the end of their campaign in the tournament without securing a victory.
Rodrigo Aguirre scored first for Tigres in the 19th minute, but Vancouver's Emmanuel Sabbi equalized in the 80th minute. Despite late red cards issued to Tigres players Diego Lainez and Nahuel Guzman, the Whitecaps could not take advantage. Tigres outshot Vancouver 10-5, although the Whitecaps held 55 percent possession.
In the penalty shootout, Tigres players Juan Brunetta, Fernando Gorriaran, Romulo Zwarg, Diego Sanchez, and Joaquim Henrique successfully converted their kicks. For Vancouver, Ryan Gauld, Sabbi, Oliver Larraz, and Edier Ocampo scored, but missed attempts by Mathias Laborda, Ralph Priso, and Rayan Elloumi sealed their fate.
