Vancouver Whitecaps Extend Defender Tate Johnson's Contract
The Vancouver Whitecaps have announced a long-term contract extension for defender Tate Johnson, an American fullback, which will last through the 2029-30 season with an option for 2030-31.
Johnson, 21, was selected 15th overall by the Whitecaps in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft and has since participated in 68 matches across all competitions, contributing one goal and five assists.
He played a key role in the team's recent successes, including winning a fourth consecutive Canadian Championship, securing the MLS Western Conference title, and reaching the MLS Cup final for the first time last season. Johnson is also involved with the United States' youth national program, having made appearances for both the U-20 and U-21 teams.
