Vandalism Strikes New Halewood Play Park Before Opening
A play area in Halewood, Knowsley, which was set to open to the public this week, has been vandalized, causing significant damage. The facility, valued at more than £178,000, was found with all play equipment spray painted with graffiti over the weekend.
Knowsley Council leader Graham Morgan expressed his anger over the incident, highlighting that trees and safety surfacing were also harmed, with repair costs expected to reach thousands of pounds. The park was intended to be ready for families to enjoy during the summer holidays, but the vandalism has delayed its opening.
The council has reported the incident to Merseyside Police and is reviewing CCTV footage to identify those responsible. Morgan emphasized the need to hold the vandals accountable and ensure such acts do not recur. The new play area features equipment for children aged 0-14, including swings, slides, and sensory panels.
