Vaughn Taylor Wins First PGA Tour Champions Title at Furyk & Friends
Vaughn Taylor achieved his first PGA Tour Champions title by birdieing the second playoff hole, defeating Germany's Alex Cejka at the Constellation Furyk & Friends on Sunday in Palm Coast, Florida.
After both players parred the first playoff hole, they returned to the par-4 18th at the Ocean Course at Hammock Beach. Taylor's approach shot landed approximately 6 feet from the hole, allowing him to easily make the birdie putt.
In his inaugural season on tour after turning 50 in March, Taylor had previously recorded three top-10 finishes but had not placed better than T7 until this victory. He started the day three shots behind leader Mathew Goggin and made a strong comeback with five consecutive birdies from holes 10 to 14, finishing with a 4-under-par 68 to tie Cejka at 17-under 199. Cejka had also performed well, shooting a bogey-free round of 65 to take the clubhouse lead before the playoff.
