Verstappen Challenges FIA Decision on Red Bull-Ford Engine
Max Verstappen has stated that Red Bull is continuing discussions with the FIA concerning the engine development regulations in Formula 1, following the denial of an additional homologation opportunity for the Red Bull-Ford engine.
The Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities system, designed for manufacturers whose engines lag behind the benchmark, has not granted Red Bull-Ford any further chances after it was deemed to have the leading combustion engine in the initial assessment. This decision was reaffirmed in a second review after the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Despite being classified as having the top combustion engine, Red Bull is unable to utilize the concessions available to other teams, which has led to internal disagreements. Verstappen expressed surprise at the FIA's ruling and emphasized the ongoing negotiations regarding the future of engine specifications. Meanwhile, competitors like Ferrari and Mercedes have received development opportunities, which Verstappen believes will complicate Red Bull's performance in upcoming races.
