Vikings Coach Considers J.J. McCarthy as Third-String Quarterback
Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell has indicated that J.J. McCarthy, the team's 2024 first-round draft pick, could be positioned as the third-choice quarterback behind Carson Wentz and Kyler Murray.
During a recent podcast, insider Alec Lewis suggested that O'Connell has made significant decisions regarding the quarterback depth chart ahead of the Vikings' preseason finale against the Denver Broncos. Lewis noted that if McCarthy is not comfortable with being the third-string quarterback, it could lead to discussions about his future with the team.
There are rumors that the Vikings might waive McCarthy before the roster cut deadline, although they would prefer to trade him if he is deemed surplus. Former NFL player Bryant McFadden expressed skepticism about the Vikings retaining McCarthy if he is demoted to QB3, while NFL insider Benjamin Allbright reported that there has been some interest from other teams regarding McCarthy.
