Violet Town Football Club Revives Reserves Team with Facebook Call-Out
The Violet Town Football Netball Club, located northeast of Melbourne, has revitalized its struggling reserves team by reaching out on Facebook for players. This unconventional approach came after the team faced challenges in fielding enough players, having forfeited their first match of the season.
Coach Ryan Lloyd-Williams made a call for help on social media, which resulted in an overwhelming response. The post garnered over 300 likes and comments, leading to the recruitment of approximately 14 to 15 players, some of whom have even participated in senior matches. Players traveled from various locations, including Bendigo and Melbourne, to join the team.
Despite the team's struggles, including a significant average losing margin, the initiative has fostered community engagement and interest. The club plans to focus on building a more grassroots team for the upcoming season, aiming to strengthen player commitment and enhance overall participation.
