Vishvajit More Wins Historic Silver Medal at U23 World Wrestling Championships
Indian wrestler Vishvajit Ramchandra More achieved a historic milestone by winning a silver medal in the men's 55kg Greco-Roman category at the U23 World Wrestling Championships held in Las Vegas. This event took place on Thursday, where More narrowly lost to Georgia's Koba Karumidze with a score of 12-13 in the final seconds of the match.
More's journey to the final included three challenging victories. He started with a 10-8 win against Mexico's Isaac Marin Mata, followed by an 8-1 victory over Iran's U20 world champion Armin Shamsipour in the quarterfinals. In the semifinal, he secured a 6-4 win against Russia's Malik Gigiev, marking him as the first Indian wrestler to reach the final in this category.
Previously, More had won two bronze medals at the same championship, making him the only Indian Greco-Roman wrestler to achieve multiple medals at the U23 Worlds. However, India's overall performance faced challenges as nine wrestlers were denied US visas, which impacted their chances of competing effectively.
