Vollering Triumphs in Stage 5 of Tour de France Femmes
Demi Vollering from FDJ Suez secured victory in Stage 5 of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, outpacing Kasia Niewiadoma of Canyon-SRAM and Marlen Reusser from Movistar during a demanding mountain stage in the Beaujolais region.
Despite Vollering's strong performance, Reusser managed to retain the yellow jersey, although the stage caused significant shifts in the overall standings, with several pre-race favorites struggling. Notably, defending champion Pauline Ferrand-Prévot fell behind, finishing 2:35 minutes off the pace.
The stage featured eight categorized climbs over 140 kilometers, with a total elevation gain of 2,900 meters. Vollering's aggressive tactics, supported by her teammates, were evident as she attacked on the steep climbs, although she could not shake off Reusser and Niewiadoma. The upcoming stage 7 promises to be crucial as Reusser leads Vollering by just 12 seconds.
