Vuelta a España Stage 21 Neutralized Following Peloton Pressure

The final stage of the Vuelta a España, held on Sunday, will feature a neutralization of general classification times. This decision came after discussions between race organizers and the peloton, resulting in a confirmation that times will be frozen 9.8km before the finish in Granada.

While a stage winner will still be declared, the bonus seconds at the finish will not count towards the general classification. The change was made following concerns from riders about the technical and potentially dangerous nature of the circuit, which includes challenging descents and slippery roads.

This marks a late adjustment by the Vuelta a España officials and the UCI, who initially resisted calls for changes until just hours before the stage began. The decision reflects a growing trend in cycling, as seen earlier this season when the final stage of the Tour de France was also neutralized.
