VVS Laxman Clarifies Role of BCCI Centre of Excellence Amid Injury Concerns

The BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru has faced criticism due to a series of injuries affecting Indian cricketers. VVS Laxman, the head of the CoE, clarified that the facility is focused on excellence rather than rehabilitation during a recent media interaction.

Laxman noted that the CoE follows protocols established by the national team's strength and conditioning coach and physiotherapist. He also addressed concerns regarding coordination between the CoE, team management, and selectors, asserting that communication about player fitness is effective and ongoing.

Regarding players Jasprit Bumrah and Sai Sudharsan, who were included in the squad for an upcoming series against Sri Lanka pending fitness tests, Laxman explained that their selection was conditional. He emphasized that players are not released from the CoE until they meet specific fitness benchmarks. Additionally, the CoE is currently searching for a new head of Sports Science and Medicine following the departure of Nitin Patel.
