VVS Laxman Declines India Head Coach Position After Dravid
VVS Laxman has announced his decision to decline the position of head coach for the Indian cricket team, which became available after Rahul Dravid's successful tenure concluded with the T20 World Cup victory in 2024. Laxman will continue his role at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) for an additional two years, citing family considerations as a key factor in his choice.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had approached Laxman regarding the head coach position, but he expressed a commitment to further develop the CoE's structure and processes before considering a transition. Laxman emphasized the importance of establishing a solid foundation at the CoE, which he has led since 2021.
In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Laxman defended the CoE amid concerns about player injuries, asserting that the facility plays a broader role beyond rehabilitation. He highlighted ongoing communication between the CoE, selectors, and team management, ensuring players are only released after meeting fitness standards.
