Walter Clayton Joins Mavericks on Two-Way Contract
Walter Clayton has officially signed a two-way contract with the Dallas Mavericks, as confirmed by the team in a press release. This agreement comes after Clayton was placed on waivers by the Memphis Grizzlies, despite having a guaranteed salary of $4.19 million.
Clayton, who was drafted in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft, has previously played for the Utah Jazz and the Grizzlies. The Mavericks had to create a two-way slot by releasing John Poulakidas to accommodate Clayton, who is expected to compete for playing time behind Kyrie Irving.
In his rookie season, Clayton averaged 7.8 points, 4.0 assists, and 2.0 rebounds over 69 games. He was initially selected 18th overall by the Jazz, who traded up to secure him. His performance has been modest, and he will now look to establish himself further with Dallas.
