Warriors Set to Re-Sign Gary Payton II for 2026/27 Season
The Golden State Warriors are preparing to re-sign guard Gary Payton II for the upcoming 2026/27 season on a one-year contract valued at approximately $3.9 million. Reports indicate that the agreement is expected to be finalized over the weekend.
Payton, who is 33 years old, has spent the majority of the last six seasons with the Warriors. After two initial years with the team, he played for Portland in 2022 before being traded back to Golden State during the 2023 trade deadline. Last season, he averaged 7.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in about 15 minutes per game.
Payton's consistent role off the bench has made him a trusted player for head coach Steve Kerr. His shooting percentage from three-point range stands at 32.8%, and he has been recognized for his defensive skills and ability to contribute effectively in various situations. The Warriors are also exploring options to fill additional roster spots as they approach their salary cap limits.
