Washington Commanders Promote Van Jefferson Amid Injury to Terry McLaurin
The Washington Commanders have taken swift action to fill a gap in their wide receiver lineup by promoting Van Jefferson from the practice squad to the active roster on Wednesday, 2026. This move comes after Terry McLaurin was placed on injured reserve due to a torn patellar tendon sustained during a Week 6 game against the San Francisco 49ers, which will sideline him for the rest of the season following surgery.
Jefferson, who is 30 years old and has a decade of professional experience, is expected to provide depth as the team adjusts to McLaurin's absence. He was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in 2020 and has recorded 166 receptions for 2,226 yards and 13 touchdowns throughout his career. His most notable season was in 2021 when he contributed to the Rams' Super Bowl LVI victory.
In addition to Jefferson's promotion, the Commanders have also signed outside linebacker Kyle Kennard to the practice squad. Jefferson's experience and ability to run routes effectively will be crucial as the team navigates the remainder of the season without their top receiver.
