Washington Commanders Release D.J. Johnson and Darius Rush from Practice Squad

The Washington Commanders have announced the release of outside linebacker D.J. Johnson and cornerback Darius Rush from their practice squad.

Darius Rush, 26, was a fifth-round draft pick by the Indianapolis Colts in 2023, signing a four-year contract worth $4.2 million. After being waived by the Colts following the preseason, he was claimed by the Kansas City Chiefs and later signed to the Pittsburgh Steelers' active roster. Following a brief period with the Chiefs and a futures contract, Rush was waived due to an injury designation and had a short stint with the Cleveland Browns before joining the Commanders' practice squad.

Rush was promoted to the active roster in December 2025 and signed a futures deal after the season, but he was released after training camp and subsequently re-signed to the practice squad. He played in one game for the Commanders in 2025.
