Washington Commanders Release Kicker Jake Moody, Name Drew Stevens as Starter
The Washington Commanders have announced the release of veteran kicker Jake Moody, opting to promote undrafted rookie Drew Stevens to the starting role. This decision comes as the team approaches the end of the preseason, with two games remaining.
Stevens, who played college football at Iowa, has shown impressive performance during training camp, completing 43 of 48 field-goal attempts. In contrast, Moody finished with 36 successful attempts out of 47. The competition between the two kickers intensified over the past three months, with Moody struggling in recent practices, including a notable miss during a preseason game.
Moody joined the Commanders last season and had a solid run, converting 10 of 11 field-goal attempts. However, the team's ongoing search for stability at the kicker position continues, as Stevens becomes the 20th kicker to join the franchise since 2020.
