Washington Commanders Release Veteran Safety Will Harris
The Washington Commanders announced the release of veteran safety Will Harris on Tuesday, marking the end of his one-season tenure with the team and concluding a two-year contract he signed in March 2025.
Harris, who is 30 years old, joined the Commanders after spending five seasons with the Detroit Lions and one year with the New Orleans Saints. His career statistics include 358 tackles, three interceptions, and 2.5 sacks over 103 regular-season games. His time in Washington was marred by injury, as he suffered a fractured fibula early in the season but returned to play nine games, finishing with 38 tackles and one sack.
The decision to release Harris follows the team's acquisition of new players and a shift in their defensive strategy. The Commanders signed Nick Cross and retained Jeremy Reaves, leading to Harris's diminished role in training camp. The release is expected to save the team approximately $3.76 million in salary cap space. Harris now has the opportunity to seek a new team before the final roster cuts this weekend.
