Washington Commanders to Release Kicker Jake Moody, Select Rookie Drew Stevens
The Washington Commanders are set to release veteran kicker Jake Moody and will appoint undrafted rookie Drew Stevens to take over the position, as reported on Monday.
This decision continues a trend of instability at the kicker position for the Commanders, marking the 12th player to fill the role since 2021 and the eighth since the beginning of the 2024 season. In contrast, their NFC East rival, the Dallas Cowboys, has relied on a single kicker, Brandon Aubrey, throughout all 51 regular-season games since 2023.
Moody, who joined the Commanders after a stint with the Chicago Bears, had a successful run in Washington, converting 10 of 11 field-goal attempts. However, Stevens outperformed him during spring practice and training camp, where Moody struggled with five missed kicks. Stevens, a former standout at Iowa, set school records for field goals made and 50-yard field goals during his college career.
