Wayne Madsen Signs One-Year Contract with Derbyshire
Wayne Madsen, the captain of Derbyshire, has signed a one-year red-ball contract, which will extend his tenure with the club into a 19th season.
The 42-year-old batter, originally from South Africa, has accumulated over 24,000 runs across all formats for Derbyshire, including 52 centuries. Although he retired from domestic T20 cricket in July, he will lead the team in the 2027 County Championship Division Two after finishing sixth this season.
Madsen expressed pride in his long association with the club and emphasized his commitment to helping Derbyshire return to Division One. He has previously led the team to the Division Two title in 2012 and resumed the captaincy in 2025. Derbyshire's head of cricket, Mickey Arthur, acknowledged Madsen's dedication as he approaches the latter stages of his career.
