Welsh Rugby Union Issues Pitch Safety Guidelines Following Record Heat

The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) has released safety guidelines for community clubs ahead of the new rugby season, following an exceptionally hot summer in Wales.

This summer saw Wales record its highest temperature ever on June 24, reaching 35.9C in Cardiff, and July was noted as the driest month in 190 years. As a result, rugby pitches have become extremely dry, with surfaces resembling concrete.

The WRU has advised clubs to evaluate pitch conditions before matches, emphasizing the importance of player safety. Clubs are permitted to reschedule games without penalties until mid-September, and match officials can make decisions based on safety concerns. The guidance will be reviewed and updated by September 13.
