Wendy Choo, known for her time as the WWE EVOLVE Women's Champion, was released by WWE on September 4, surprising many backstage given her lengthy tenure of over seven years with the organization.

Choo's release was unexpected, especially since she had recently lost the EVOLVE title to Nikkita Lyons at the end of June, although the match was recorded in May. Despite this, some insiders noted that her recent championship status held little significance within WWE.

Industry expert Dave Meltzer suggested that Choo's long stay in WWE's developmental system, without a call-up to the main roster, made her release more likely. He also indicated that her character gimmicks, including a sleeping persona, were not strong enough for success on shows like WWE Raw or SmackDown, and that injuries had hindered her ability to make a significant impact.
