White Sox Acquire Luis Castillo from Mariners

The Chicago White Sox have made a significant addition to their pitching rotation by acquiring right-handed starter Luis Castillo from the Seattle Mariners.

The trade involves the White Sox sending reliever Seranthony Domínguez, outfielder Nolan Jones, and catching prospect Boston Smith to Seattle. Castillo, who has faced challenges this season with a 5.06 ERA over 99.2 innings, has been used in a bullpen role multiple times due to the Mariners' depth in starting pitchers.

Castillo, 33, is under contract through the 2027 season, with a vesting option for 2028 contingent on him pitching 180 innings next year. The White Sox will assume the remaining $30 million on Castillo's contract for the next two seasons. In return, the Mariners hope to maximize the potential of Domínguez, who has a 4.10 ERA this season, along with Jones, who has performed well in triple-A, and Smith, who has hit 22 home runs this season.
