White Sox Designate José Urquidy for Assignment
The Chicago White Sox have made a roster change by designating right-hander José Urquidy for assignment and recalling left-hander Noah Schultz from Triple-A Charlotte.
Urquidy, who is 31 years old, joined the White Sox in July after being designated for assignment by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He primarily served as a long reliever, making six appearances and pitching 22 2/3 innings with an earned run average of 4.37. His performance included a 5.3% walk rate, but his strikeout rate of 15.8% and ground ball rate of 37% were considered below average.
Despite reasonable statistics for a long reliever, Urquidy had limited usage, with only two appearances in September, the last being on the 8th. Schultz, who has less major league experience but has shown promise in the minors with a 2.01 ERA, will take Urquidy's spot. Following the trade deadline, Urquidy will be placed on waivers, as he is not eligible for postseason play with any claiming team.
